Clann Zu - You'll Have to Swim
I have already tried transcribing this once .
Now, 6 years later, I'm still not completely sure that it's correct and
authentic to the album version. For example the part starting on bar
95: I can't figure out the first 2 chords. I know that the 3rd one in
bar 97 is a Csus2, but I can't hear what comes before it. Some violin
parts are also simplified and missing specifics like slides.
Regardless of that, I've noticed that my transcription skills have improved
more during the past few months of doing these than over the course of 15
years that I've been "playing the guitar". I reckon the availability of
state-of-the-art stem splitting tools is partly responsible for that.
You'll Have to Swim is a fun song to play on guitar. The only thing
which made me sad, apart from being reminded that Clann Zu will never
release another album, is my inability to dial in the guitar tone. No
matter what I do, I just can't get the distortion right. It's not exclusive
to this song, but it reminded me of my hatred and despair when it comes
to distorted tones. I just don't understand how everyone else can have
those creamy, distinct distorted sounds with full blown chords but me.
I narrowed it down to intermodulation distortion, but how come no one
else is experiencing it but me? If I play anything that's not a perfect
fifth with distortion, my guitar sounds like it's farting from a 32kbps
MP3 file. There's a weird, tremolo-esque, weak, high-pitched, distorted
tone and it's driving me crazy.
