The Mayan Factor - Ventrilaquist
This one has got such a strong ending, it's a delight to play it on the guitar. I'm not 100% sure about the acoustic guitar. Ray Schuler has used alternate tunings (see this video), so I'm not sure about the voicings for these chords. I'm not even 100% convinced it's the right chords.
The verse has the E5 Cmaj7 D Bm7 progression. On the isolated track
one can hear way more movement, espeially at the Bm7 part. The uncertain
tuning forced me to give up and just accept the close approximation.
During the chorus, the G/F# sounds perhaps off. I can hear the F#, but I'm not sure if they just keep on playing the G. Trying to stay within the diatonic chords, I tried a F#dim, but it didn't sound correct. Being limited by my lack of music theory knowledge and subpar ear, I didn't know what else to try, so I settled for this. If someone can hear out exactly what they played there, please share it, I'd love to correct it.
The bass plays a D1 at one point, so it's tuned to drop D tuning. Theoretically one could also tune the electric guitar to drop D, but the low D2 is never played. Therefore I left it in standard tuning. Keeping the acoustic in standard tuning also makes playing the Cmaj7 and Bmin7 easier using that voicing.
